Privacy

GolfTrip is an app for running golf trips with your friends. We collect what we need to make the app work — and nothing else. We don't sell your data, and we don't target ads.

Last updated:May 2026. This is the public-beta version of our privacy notice. We'll publish a more formal policy as we approach general availability; the substance below is what we're committing to today.

What we collect

  • Account info — your name, email, and (optionally) phone number, so we can sign you in and let your friends invite you to a trip. Authentication is handled by Clerk; we never see your password.
  • Trip data— the trips you create or join, the people in them, the rounds you play, scores you enter, and any side-game results. This is the core of what the app does, and it's only visible to people in the trip.
  • Basic usage telemetry— server logs (request paths, error rates) and first-party product analytics so we can find bugs, understand which flows people use, and improve them. No third-party ad trackers. Our analytics record actions (e.g. “an RSVP was submitted,” “a sign-up button was tapped”) and never store your email or phone number in those records.
  • Tee Time RSVP & guest info— when you RSVP to a tee-time link someone shares with you, we collect your name and, if you choose to add them, your email and phone. Your name is visible to anyone with the tee-time link; your email and phone stay private to the organizer and are never shown to other guests. If you opt in to marketing email at that point, we'll use your email to send occasional golf tips and new-tee-time updates — and you can unsubscribe from any of those with one click.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone. Full stop.
  • We don't target ads.GolfTrip doesn't run advertising at all.
  • We don't handle real money. The trip pot and side-game settle-up are record-keeping — we track who owes what so you can settle outside the app (Venmo, cash, whatever). No payment processing, no card storage, no money movement.
  • We don't share your trip with anyone outside it. Your scores, pairings, and trip details are visible only to the players you invite.

Service providers we use

A few third parties power pieces of the app. They get only the data they need to do their job:

  • Clerk — authentication and account management.
  • Vercel — hosting the web app.
  • Google Places + GolfCourseAPI— looking up courses and lodging when you're building a trip.

Each of these has its own privacy policy. We don't share more than is needed for the feature in question.

Your data, your call

You can delete your account at any time from the account page. When you do, we delete your profile and remove you from any trips you own; trips you joined as a guest will keep your historical scores attached to your name (so the leaderboard stays correct), but the link to your account is severed.

If you'd like a copy of your data, or you have questions, email hello@golftrip.fun and we'll sort it out.

Cookies

We use a session cookie (set by Clerk) to keep you signed in, and a small handful of first-party cookies for app preferences. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

Kids

GolfTrip is intended for adults running golf trips. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes to this notice

If we update this policy in a meaningful way, we'll let you know in-app before the change takes effect. The plain-English version above is what we're committing to until then.
